In Matt Stafford's emotional return to Detroit, Jared Goff gets the best of his former team to break the 32-year-long curse.
Rams (6) @ Lions (3): 23-24 Lions
In a game with a lot of ‘off-field’ storylines surrounding it, such as Stafford's emotional return to Ford Field, Goff vs his former team, or Detroit finally putting an end to its home playoff drought, the on-field product did not disappoint the excited fans in Detroit. A Lions crowd that had spent years supporting and cheering for Matt Stafford, even on his Super Bowl run for the Rams, the support and love for Stafford never waivered from the Lions. However, in an atmosphere that had been waiting 30 years for their home playoff game, there was a job to be done to erase the Same Old Lions reputation, and the boos rained down on Stafford, amidst some cheers as well.

The first half of this game was high-scoring as the Lions scored on their opening drive blowing the roof off the stadium. Stafford and Goff were both showing their arm strength and decision-making. Stafford was completing multiple passes at different levels, again proving how talented his arm still is. While showing off his connection with rookie receiver Puka Nakua, who broke the record for receiving yards in a playoff game for a rookie. Jared Goff trying to prove the Rams wrong, led the Lions to three touchdown drives in the first half, and the lead 21-17 going into halftime.
In the second half, there was less scoring and explosive plays, but Goff showed poise, and when the Rams didn't blitz or pressure, he was nearly perfect. Stafford was resilient and courageous, as he always was for the Lions, getting hit and hit, going into the blue medical tent more than once during the second half. He was incredible throwing for almost 370 yards, but it would not be enough. Questionable time management from McVay such as an early time out in the third, and punting on a late fourth down, combined with tough stands from the Lion's defense and secondary, would carry the Lions to their first playoff victory in 32 years.
One of the most fitting victories for the Detroit Lions fans as they look forward to hosting a second home playoff game vs Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers. Ford Field will be electric, as the BRAND NEW LIONS, look to continue their run with an NFC Championship game appearance.
